Do middle school students receive Chromebooks?

The Jackson R2 School District is committed to ensuring equitable access to technology for all students. As part of this commitment, all middle school students will receive a Chromebook and a Chromebook case.

Students will be responsible for the device and will be required to carry it with them to and from school and take it with them to every class. For this reason, we encourage all parents to purchase the Chromebook Insurance.

More information about the district's One 4 One initiative, the Chromebooks in general, and how to purchase the insurance, please visit the district's One 4 One page.

What are the dates and times for the middle school Back-to-School registration days?

JMS is happy to welcome all students and parents/guardians to our Back-to-School registration days! These are:

  • 5th Grade: August 11th from 8:00-11:00 a.m. and again from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
  • 6th Grade: August 12th from 8:00-11:00 a.m. and again from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Both of these dates are "open house" so please visit the school during the time that works best for you. Keep in mind that lines are typically the longest right at the beginning of the time frame. In addition, completing the online registration through Parent Portal prior to the registration date will GREATLY expedite your process. We strongly encourage you to do this!

For more details about the registration days and what they involve, please refer to the letter sent via email

How does lunch and recess work at middle school?

Lunch is divided alphabetically for all students.

5th Grade:
Students with last names starting with A-K: A Lunch (Eat lunch first, then go to recess)
Students with last names starting with L-Z: B Lunch (Go to recess first, then eat lunch)

6th Grade:
Students with last names starting with A-K: C Lunch (Eat lunch first, then go to recess)
Students with last names starting with L-Z: D Lunch (Go to recess first, then eat lunch)

This year, the first breakfast and lunch are once again free for all students.  If students want to get a second tray, they will be charged the regular meal price.

In order to get a lunch tray, students will scan their lunch badges.  ALL students will be required to carry their lunch badges with them. The first badge is provided free of charge to all students along with a lanyard.  Parents may purchase a different lanyard for their students if they choose to.  If a student loses his/her lunch badge, the school will provide another badge.  However, if a student consistently loses a badge, they may be charged a fine and/or receive a school consequence.
